Abstract

The medical specialists? groups based on community treatment or health care providing are widespread and will be referred as Mental Health Mobile Team (MHM team) farther in the document.

The objectives of this team are to work with clients toward elimination of mental illness symptoms, minimization or prevention of the recurrent episodes of the illness, improvement in clients’ quality of life, increased functioning and community tenure.

The MHM team provides rehabilitation, treatment and support services to its clients. In addition, the team is prepared to provide intensive support to individuals in crisis. The work of the MHM team includes ongoing assessments that impact the ongoing treatment, rehabilitation and support plans. Usually MHM team services are provided on a continuous rather then a time-limited basis. The original MHM team consists of a team leader with a clinical background, a psychiatrist, mental health professionals such as psychiatric nurses, vocational specialists, substance abuse specialists, and a program assistant.

Purpose of the Project

The Argussoft «MedSphere» product had been developed as solution to automate activities of the medical specialists? groups, hysician networks, community-based networks and small medical practices.

«MedSphere» provides ability to maintain information related to the following areas of MHM team activities:

  • Client medical information
  • MHM team information
  • Scheduling and time management

Objectives

The major MHM processes that the «MedSphere» is supported are:

  • Initial screening
  • Admission
  • Initial assessment
  • Comprehensive assessment
  • Ongoing assessment
  • Continuous treatment, rehabilitation and reporting
  • Daily and weekly client needs and services scheduling
  • Daily and weekly MHM team members? tasks and appointments scheduling

Major «MedSphere» features include:

  • Role-based security model
  • Easy-to-use and intuitive user interface
  • Multiple users access and concurrent users work support

«MedSphere»?s security subsystem is designed to provide following features:

  • All users interacting with MedSphere should be authenticated
  • When user requests some operation, her authorization for a given operation should be checked
  • Sensitive business data should be protected from external inspection and modification (may be not implemented in current version)
  • System failures should not corrupt or expose data

System Architecture

Solution

«MedSphere» is a solution built on client-server architecture. «MedSphere» consists of the following parts:

  • Server — the «MedSphere» database
  • Client:
    • Windows GUI-based Win32 desktop application
    • Data Access Layer components and other utility components and applications

«MedSphere» system has non-distibuted database holding all the necessary information. The database is MS SQL 7.0 format and is running on MSDE.

For «MedSphere» developing Microsoft developer tools are using. «MedSphere» is designed to operate under Microsoft Windows environment on client workstations and servers. The main tool is MS Visual Studio 7.0. To develop database related software parts MS T-SQL is using.

The diagram on the next slide shows architecture of all the software developed in the scope of «MedSphere» project and the place of «MedSphere» Client Application in this architecture.

The synchronization between Team Member Home PC «MedSphere» installation and MHM Team Office «MedSphere» database is not defined yet.
