Olimpex Information System

Abstract

OIS was developed in order to automate the activities of transportation companies. The system can handle the following types of shipments:

• Air Export
• Ocean Export
• Ocean Import
• Warehouse/Truck

There are two types of the interfaces used to accessing data and functions of OIS: generic Windows interface and World Wide Web style interface. OIS provides the following:

• Development and maintenance of data bases for customers, suppliers, employees, etc.
• Customers quotes
• Creation of Expediting Sheet and printing out all the necessary documents for each type of shipment
• Processing of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable , automatic building and printing of all invoices, transportation checks
• Automatic creation of monthly and annual reports on shipments
• Maintenance of reference books necessary for creation of documents

The system has easy-to-understand GUI that includes mouse operations, buttons, tabs, etc. Also OIS has Web based interface providing full access to all information stored in the database. The system can be customized (addition or modification of screens, reports, documents) in line with the needs of a specific customer. The system works with MS Windows?95 and uses MS SQL Server 6.5

Objectives

It is necessary to create lot of documents for rendering a transport service. All documents had to be filled out manually by Olimpex staff. This process is very slow and mistakable.To avoid this, increase speed of the order?s processing and get possibility to perform summary data processing OIS was ordered.

Solution

OIS was developed in the client/server environment using Microsoft Visual Basic as client side development tool and Microsoft SQL Server to store and process information. We took into account preferences of the customer?s staff and have developed easy-to-use, powerful system.

• TRANSYS has a number of service functions, which facilitate work with the system. For example, printing of several similar documents for different shipments; powerful calculator, which can translate figures from one measurement system to another, etc.
