The prototype of the integrated visual model for investigating the United Telecommunications Bank Network (UTBN)

Abstract

Customer has branch offices in all major cities of the Russian Federation. It has its own heterogeneous distributed data/voice network built on network equipment supplied by all major hardware vendors of the world. There are many network applications running over this network.

In addition to its own network, it has many other communication channels leased from regional communications service providers. There are all known kinds of computers in this network (from PCs to mainframes), with operating time from 1 month to 20 years. Budget plans for purchasing new equipment are created in branch offices and should be confirmed in Moscow. The main network management platform in use is Hewlett-Packard's OpenView.

Purpose of the Project

To provide a well-grounded decision support in the development of enterprise networks.

To have multifunctional view of the current status of network equipment and to include features of analysis and interpretation of network data by using expert systems and modeling tools

Objectives

• Management - to obtain reports, statistics, and various network information including forecasts;
• Planning departments - to create well-grounded current reports, perform program evaluation and design network evolution concepts;
• Analytical departments - to obtain integral, consistent, up-to-date data in the form of multiple flexible views;
• Network operators - to diminish network load, perform automated fault detection and repair/maintenance tasks
